Hello there.
I hope you had a great weekend. Mine sure was busy, busy, busy! Anyone else have to remind themselves often that they are only little once and that going to every single sporting/education event is going to be missed soon???? All I want to do sometimes is just kick up my feet, read a good book (that has nothing to do with school), and just chill for ten uninterrupted minutes. Anyone???? Anyone???? :0) If this is you too, write RELAX in the planner for $50.
I made a slideshow of our field trip. Right as I was ready to share it, the power went out and I lost my internet connection...therefore losing my slideshow. Urg. Cause: Mother Nature Effect: another day of waiting for you. I hope to get it posted soon.
Our quick little play will be this Tuesday at 1:15 or 1:30. Please join us if you would like to at either one. It is quick, quick but fun. I will film it and post it on the blog as well. Again, I am grading on projecting your voice, but not yelling at the audience and speaking fluently in a character voice (not to fast, not too slow).
Testing is done, done, done. We will be back to normal studies this week.
We will begin our final unit in Lead 21: Ecosystems. This class seems to adore animals so this should be a high interest unit. I will also begin to read our new read aloud book, Riding Freedom. Kids will need to hear and understand this book before we come out to the Ranch on May 22nd. Please, please, please don't let kids read ahead or get this book on their own. It is full of surprises and I don't want them spoiled. Thanks.
Our West Regional States and Capital's test will be this Thursday. There is no school on Friday.
We will then begin to review all 50 states and capitals. Kids will only be required to be able to match the states with their correct capital (spelling is not required to be memorized). They may also take a 50 state map test if they want. I will give them extra credit in SS if they do and only miss up to 5. This test will be mid to end May.
In MT History, we will finish up our native unit and begin our Lewis and Clark Unit. We will again read a novel as a class, similar to what we did for Bridge to Terabithia. There will be times when kids are assigned to read a chapter at home for homework. Please feel free to read it with them aloud and help them make connections to the text through discussions. This will help them connect even more when we take our field trip to Pompey's Pillar on June 2nd.
In Science, we will press on in PLTW by taking apart some flashlights and figuring out what makes them work. We will take a deep look into circuits and electricity. There will be plenty of hands on activities in this area!
Well, that about covers the week. Have a wonderful week, and congratulations to Miss. Emily for all her ribbons in her Special Olympic Events!!! I am so proud of you!!!
Mrs. Grewell
