Feel Like Earning Your Kiddo $200????

Howdy Folks!

Another fun day down in the books. I have no idea how I am going to let these kiddos go! :0(

Kids are really starting to see math come alive. Today at recess, there were some BPS workers on the playground and they were using this wheel machine to measure things. I grabbed some kids and said...Hey, what are those guys doing??? They looked at weird. I said, I bet that they are finding area or perimeter. Let's go ask! Sure enough...the guy looked right at them and said, length x width!!! Awesome!!!

Then in math today, I put up a picture made completely of triangles and asked the kids if they could draw it. They all were like NO! It looked very complicated! I said, yes you can. It is all triangles and all you need is a ruler and a two inch line segment. Look at what they were able to make! What!!!! You can use scalene, isosceles, and equilateral triangles to create art? No way! You mean I could be an architect or graphic designer with this stuff???? :0) I love when it all comes together! (We also said this would be a PERFECT activity to do in car when driving far distances and your parents are ready to pull the car over!) :0) If they can show you how to do it tonight, write STAR in the planner for $50 tomorrow.

We wrapped up the play today by having one more show for Mrs. Zelinski's first grade class. We had three siblings in there and they begged me yesterday! What a fun way to end. Loved hearing the little ones cracking up! :0)

Homework tonight is one last Dear Mrs. Grewell letter. Kids need to make it about their 4th grade year. What did they like? Not like? Learn? What will you use in the real world? What will you miss? Things like that. Half a page is the least on this one!

If YOU would also like to write a similar DMG letter telling me your thoughts on how your kiddo has changed this year (at school or home or both) please do so. I love reading these! Those that bring one in will earn $200!!! (That is a free field trip!) Wow!

I leave you with a fun picture of Miss. Emily. We are so proud of her for doing so awesome in her special olympics! So many ribbons and look at that proud smile! We love you Emily!!!

Have a wonderful, wonderful night! If anyone needs me...I will be on the soccer field. (and then at Dairy Queen!)

Enjoy the show and the paperwork!

Hi there. Oh my what a fun, fun day. The kids started it off with a fun assembly with Hunter Lloyd and his robot friends. How cool was that! Ask your kiddos about it!!! I want to become a Computer Scientist now!!!

The play was fantastic. Thanks to all of you that came. The one they picked was perfect for those little kid audiences. They all did a great job on their voice projection and character voice selection. They were not too fast or not too slow. It was just perfect! I have included it at the end of the slideshow below. If you watch it, write SHOW in the planner for $50 tomorrow. Enjoy it and enjoy the fun Plenty Coup field trip pictures as well!

Tuesday folders came home today. They were packed with field trip permissions and information. Here is the scoop on those.

1. The Arbor Day One- You already sent in money for that one, so just the slip needs returned.

2. The Grewell Ranch One- You need to send in the $6 for that one. This was NOT included in the $7 you sent in last week. (Remember, I said before that all the field trips together would be about $20 total for each kiddo in earlier posts.) I couldn't do them all together because not all 4th grade classes are going on all of them. Sorry!

3. The Spinners Bike Ride One-Kids need to BRING their $5 THAT DAY!!!! Please do not send it in early. They will pay at the counter when we arrive that day. They will get a choice of yogurt and up to three toppings for $5. It is a one price deal.

Thanks!

If your child has a summer birthday, you will also find a slip that tells you when I assigned their special day to celebrate it in class in the Tuesday Folder. If that date doesn't work, please let me know. Of course treats are optional. I just want to make sure kids all get to celebrate their special day in class!

Homework: In honor of Espen's last day today, there is NO homework. Instead, we will all spend the evening mourning the loss of this amazing kid in our class. Good luck in Norway Espen!!! See you next year buddy! Hugs!!!

Reminder: West states and capital's test is THIS Thursday.

Clear as mud???
Have a great night!

Is it really the last week of April all ready??

Hello there.

I hope you had a great weekend. Mine sure was busy, busy, busy! Anyone else have to remind themselves often that they are only little once and that going to every single sporting/education event is going to be missed soon???? All I want to do sometimes is just kick up my feet, read a good book (that has nothing to do with school), and just chill for ten uninterrupted minutes. Anyone???? Anyone???? :0) If this is you too, write RELAX in the planner for $50.

I made a slideshow of our field trip. Right as I was ready to share it, the power went out and I lost my internet connection...therefore losing my slideshow. Urg. Cause: Mother Nature    Effect: another day of waiting for you. I hope to get it posted soon.

Our quick little play will be this Tuesday at 1:15 or 1:30. Please join us if you would like to at either one. It is quick, quick but fun. I will film it and post it on the blog as well. Again, I am grading on projecting your voice, but not yelling at the audience and speaking fluently in a character voice (not to fast, not too slow).

Testing is done, done, done. We will be back to normal studies this week.

We will begin our final unit in Lead 21: Ecosystems. This class seems to adore animals so this should be a high interest unit. I will also begin to read our new read aloud book, Riding Freedom. Kids will need to hear and understand this book before we come out to the Ranch on May 22nd. Please, please, please don't let kids read ahead or get this book on their own. It is full of surprises and I don't want them spoiled. Thanks.

Our West Regional States and Capital's test will be this Thursday. There is no school on Friday.

We will then begin to review all 50 states and capitals. Kids will only be required to be able to match the states with their correct capital (spelling is not required to be memorized). They may also take a 50 state map test if they want. I will give them extra credit in SS if they do and only miss up to 5. This test will be mid to end May.

In MT History, we will finish up our native unit and begin our Lewis and Clark Unit. We will again read a novel as a class, similar to what we did for Bridge to Terabithia. There will be times when kids are assigned to read a chapter at home for homework. Please feel free to read it with them aloud and help them make connections to the text through discussions. This will help them connect even more when we take our field trip to Pompey's Pillar on June 2nd.

In Science, we will press on in PLTW by taking apart some flashlights and figuring out what makes them work. We will take a deep look into circuits and electricity. There will be plenty of hands on activities in this area!

Well, that about covers the week. Have a wonderful week, and congratulations to Miss. Emily for all her ribbons in her Special Olympic Events!!! I am so proud of you!!!

Hi!

Field trip was AMAZING!!!! Kids did great on all accounts. We got many compliments on the behavior all day long. So proud of them.

A few ticks were found on the other class on the bus (they went on a joint through the tall weeds after lunch). I was not about to risk it, so we didn't go. However....I would still do a tick check and hot water laundry run before bed tonight! Shower up kiddos!

I was very proud of how well the kids joined into the other classroom on the bus ride up. Electronics were used to break the ice and then the conversations just naturally happened.

I have tons of pictures to share. I will slideshow them this weekend. Until then...you will just have to wait. :0)

Ask your kiddo what vision animal they had to be in the counting coup relay. If they can tell you, write it in the planner for $10 tomorrow.

Have a wonderful night.

Field Trip Tomorrow!

Happy Earth Day!!!!

After testing, we took some time to learn all about our wonderful planet Earth! Kids made Earth Round Snacks that divided it up into land/water/unlivable/livable. Have kids explain the picture below to you. Then, they had to use their round to answer some fractional and percent questions. Finally...they ate the EARTH!!! Crazy kids!

The Plenty Coup field trip is tomorrow.

1. Lunch with a drink (soda is fine) (we do not have a cooler to store them in so use icepacks please)
2. Tennis Shoes and socks.
3. Electronics if want them for the bus. (They will stay in backpack with lunch on bus while we are out touring)
4. Layered clothing and a hat (It is TICK season!!!)
5. Sunscreen-Please apply AT HOME.
6. A positive attitude.

Please talk to your kiddos tonight about number 6. We were invited by another class. I told the students that it will be very rude if it is our class and their class separate. This is a wonderful time to use all the Fly Time skills they have learned all year about making new friends. Introducing themselves, sitting with them on the bus and at lunch, asking them questions to learn more about each other, etc. If you have this discussion, please write FRIEND in the planner for $50.

A BIG thank you to Reece and Espen for spoiling me today! Epsen gifted me with a Barnes and Noble gift card (which I am dying to use tonight for the second book in the series I am reading..perfect timing kiddo!!), a gift card for Spinners (again perfect timing as we will be heading that way soon!), and a fun magnet that says teachers are a special gift to the world. So sweet buddy. I sure am going to miss you when you leave next week. :0( Thanks Espen! Check out this fun little Super Hero Teacher that Reece gave me this morning! Adorable!!! I sure do feel like a super hero with kids that are awesome around me all day! Thank you Reece!

I leave you with some pictures from yesterday's math project with the geometrical shapes. FUN!

Have a great night, and we will see you tomorrow. (Still in need of a chaperone if you are not doing anything. Please text me tonight if you can come 8:30-2:30ish). Thanks.

Earth Day Tomorrow! Happy Birthday Krissy!

Hi there.

Testing went great. We will once again head to the computer lab tomorrow morning to finish up our Reading sections. Then, Friday we will finish up math and THEN....we are DONE with standardized testing for the year! They have been troopers. I have a special treat for them come the end, if they continue to give me their very best!

Happy Birthday to Krissy today! She turned the big 10! Thanks for the yummy cupcakes missy! Delicious!!!

The West Regional states and capital's test will be not this Thursday, but next Thursday (April 30th).

Tomorrow is Earth Day. We spent some time with our buddies cleaning up the playground today. We will do a fun snack project tomorrow dealing with the Earth Day Holiday! Have kids get online with you tonight and find a fun fact about Earth Day (Just ONE) that they can quickly share tomorrow morning. Those that do, will earn $50.

Our play is coming along. If you want to come watch, it will be next Tuesday at 1:30 in our room. The entire thing from start to finish is about 5 minutes. So, if you can't get the day off...it might be ok. I will also video it and put it on the blog. But, know that it is pretty darn cute and if you are not busy come on over. :0)

Tuesday Folders went home today. Inside you will find the BBQ lunch form for the annual hot lunch outside. Come one, come all. There is also a note in there about payment needed for two of our upcoming field trips to cover the busses. This amount was divided by all 4th graders. It does not include the trip to the Grewell Ranch, as not all classes go. There will be another notice coming home for that one. Please send in the money as soon as you can so we know where we stand. With 115 4th graders, it gets confusing. :0)

The field trip for Thursday is all set. Kids may bring electronics. Sunscreen applied BEFORE school would also be a good idea as well as good walking shoes, layers, and a hat. Also, don't forget that lunch. There is no cost for this one, as the tab was picked up by Indian Ed For All. WooHoo!

Thanks for sending in all the fun geometric solid food! The kids had a great time putting their boards together today. Mrs. Emetic came in right in the middle of it all and said, "Man...why wasn't math this fun when my kids were in school?" Awesome! The boards will be on display in the hallway for about a week (minus the food that may rot). Hopefully, everything else comes back home. I also hope that they asked you and you are not trying to cook without your many seasoning cylinder shaped space bottles tonight. :0)

Testing Again Tomorrow!

Hello there.

Due to testing, there is no homework again this week. However, kids have a math project that they need to do some home prep work for. They have a sheet for you in their homework folder explaining it. If they show it to you, write MATH in the planner for $50. I reminded them three times to bring it home. :0)

We did our first session of Smarter Balance Testing today. It went great. There were only 4-6 questions, but kids took their time and answered each part of each question. Tomorrow, we will do the reading one. They have to type an essay. Don't worry...they are ready! :0)

Rumor has it we have a birthday in the house tomorrow! :0) Right Krissy??? Yay!

We are working hard in language arts on a play called, Commotion In The Ocean. All kids have been assigned a part. They are making props in class. We will perform it for our 2nd grade buddies and first grade friends. I will let you know when...but it will be next week sometime if you want to come watch too. They should be memorizing their lines at home. Ask your kiddo what part they have. If they can tell you their lines, write PLAY in the planner for another $50.

That about does it for today. Have a great night!

Field Trip on Thursday!

Well hello there.

I hope you had a wonderful weekend. I loved every minute of mine. Chico was perfect and just what the doctor ordered. I even got a sunburn to prove my relaxation (so relaxed I didn't even realize I was getting burned!). Saturday the kids and I spent the day watching and playing sports. It was wonderful to be watching baseball again. Noah B, Cayden, and AJ you all did a great job! I also loved all the good sportsmanship I saw out there. Well done boys! Noah L, it was also nice to see you in the stands cheering on your friends! Awesome.

I texted everyone their kiddo's NWEA MAP test scores. I hope that you got them and were as impressed as I was. Holy growth Batman!!!! If you didn't get your kiddo's score, please text me and I will get that to you right away.

This week, we take the Smarter Balanced Test. This is the national/state test. We will not get the results right away. This test consists of math and reading, along with an essay and section of multistep math problems that kids have to explain. This is similar to the old MontCas. We will start with these two tests and work our way through to the standard multiple choice ones.

Tuesday will be a difficult day for all of us. It will be our classmate, Espen's, last day. He spends part of each school year in Norway. His father's side of the family is there. How awesome for him...but how sad for us. We wish him well, and we can't wait to see him in the fall again next year! Travel safe buddy! What an AMAZING kid and family!

I spent today in Red Lodge with one purpose. I went to get Miss. Hanna her Huckleberry taffy. Her braces came off, and now the taffy chewing can begin! Enjoy Miss. Hanna!!!! It is all for you! (Well...I did get myself my own bag as well :0))

We have a field trip this Thursday. We will be gone all day to Plenty Coup National Park. We will finish up our read aloud this week, that is explaining the Crow tradition of counting coup. I can't wait to visit this place and see it all come alive. I do need a chaperone. Text me if you can join us for the day. (I only need one). Don't forget kiddos need to pack a lunch that day along with a drink.

We have three more field trips for sure this year: Pompey's Pillar, The Grewell Ranch, and one for Arbor Day. Last year I took the kids to Spinners the last week of school via our bikes on an off road trail with Mr. Pertuit. Would you like to do that again? All three of the field trips will be a cost from you to pay for the busses. So, we are looking at around $20 for each child to cover all of them for the year. The yogurt one would be extra to purchase their treat. Last year it was $5 and we preordered with one topping. Let me know what you are thinking by writing YES saying you are ok with all of the costs or NO and you want me to cut back on trips. Those that write in the planner will earn $50 tomorrow. It is always fun to do these trips at the end of the year, but I understand if it is just too much right now.

Well, that about does it for the week. Have a great, great Sunday! The weather is supposed to be nice all week! Yay!!!

Donuts on Friday for Moms!!!

Hi!

Testing resumes tomorrow morning. We will begin at 9 after we settle in, have a pep talk, and find out how we are all feeling at Fly Time. I BELIEVE all kids are going to do great things!!!!

I leave at noon tomorrow. I will be back on Monday.

I will text you your child's test scores this weekend.

There is no homework tonight, except to play in the snow! (What the heck Montana!)

I will not blog tomorrow, but will on Sunday.

Memories with mom is this Friday. Come with your kiddo on Friday before school for a donut and coffee/juice. Fun times...sorry to miss this one :0(

Check out our lessons we did in math today. When will I ever use symmetry??? When making a very cool native design (especially used on quilts).

We also continued on with our Area and Perimeter animals. After following directions today, kids were able to design a squirrel to add to their dog they did yesterday. If they brought it home, ask them to show you how to find area and perimeter. Gotta love when math equals fun!

It was TAX Day in America today, and in Mrs. Grewell's class. So, sadly the kids got an evil lesson from the government. Kids had to count up their money and then multiply it by 30% to give to the government. It was quite the discussion about how today is not a good day to be rich! They kept saying....but why??? Why does the government need our money??? We went all the way back to the Revolutionary War for this one. :0) Ask your kiddo how much they ended up paying. It ranged from $10 to over $300 depending on how much they had in their wallet. If they can tell you, write the word TAX in the planner for $10 tomorrow.

Gabrielle also shared that not only is it Tax Day, but it is also Jackie Robinson Day for the major leagues. All teams should be wearing their uniforms displaying the number 42 on the back. She did it as well in honor of her brother who plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates! Pretty Cool!

Carl finished the day by doing his star of the week stuff. He loves to build with hammers, play laser tag and minecraft, and collect chicken feathers. What an amazing kid! Thanks for sharing with us Carl!

Have a FANTASTIC weekend. I will think of all of you while looking at the mountain tops while soaking in a hot spring! :0)

Testing Has Started...and I couldn't be more proud!

Hello, hello, hello!!!

One test down (NWEA MAP Reading)...three thousand more to go! :0) OMG!!!! The kids did soooooooooooooo awesome!!! Everyone came out on level and made their growth goal and then some! Wowzers!!! I felt like doing cartwheels! WooHoo!!! Kids needed to be at least a 197 and needed to make at least a 6 point growth. A HUGE wow to David and Adler who topped the chart with a  28 and 23 point growth!!! Noah B, Claire, Morgan, Noah L, AJ, Espen, Carl, Gwen and Landon were right on his heels with double digit scores as well! I just kept walking around looking at scores saying...oh my goodness you learned a TON this year! Great, great job 4th graders! We will continue on down the testing journey this Thursday morning with our Math NWEA MAP test. I CAN'T wait to see the growth there as well!!! Long division, fractions, angles, multiplication...no problem! We are ready!

Speaking of math, today we used our area and perimeter skills to construct a paper dog. Kids had to listen orally to instructions moving across the x and y axis lines on a grid to create the outline of the dog. Then they had to draw certain shapes in certain places using coordinate graphing. Finally, they got to fold it and turn it into a dog. Awesome! If they brought theirs home, have them tell you the area of it and the perimeter (which they found in class when all done). They should come up with an area of 40 square units and a perimeter of 58 units. Tomorrow...we try a squirrel, without so much help from Mrs. Grewell :0)

Kiddos shared their D2 slide documents with the class today. They all did a great job. The grades will be posted soon. Most kiddos got a few points off for little things like capital letters and punctuation, but overall they earned great scores for the presentation. There were a few that I would have like to have seen a bit more effort to expand a simple fact out with more details, but they all did great.

I will be gone Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. It is our once a year trip to Chico for my husband and I and another couple. The deal is only on weekdays, so I am taking some me time on this one. The sub is one we have had before, and he is wonderful with the kids.

There is no homework this week or next due to testing. Just in bed early and dreaming about shining like the bright stars that they are!

Have a great, great night!
Mrs. Grewell

Happy Birthday Claire!

Hello there.

Happy Birthday to Claire on Wednesday!!!! We sure enjoyed your donut treats! Yum!!!!!! I love that you had a wonderful time with your family celebrating with a sushi dinner! Enjoy that iPad mini too! Her best gift however, was finally finding her puppy Sox after he got out when the recent wind storm blew over their fence. Yay!!!! Pretty lucky girl Miss Claire!

Homework tonight is a math review sheet. We were on number 7, and tonight I sent home number 21. I skipped ahead to grab some of those geometry concepts that we just learned. :0) It should still all be a review and little to no help should be needed.

We started the computer part of our inquiry project today. Kids are using their D2 slide program. They are creating a 5 slide presentation. Today, we just did the basic slides (no fluff and stuff yet). Tomorrow, we will fluff it up. Kids can access this at home and work on it as well. They will have about 45 minutes to finish it up in class on Friday. After that, it is homework for the weekend. Presentations will begin on Monday.

The trial 2 spelling test is tomorrow. Study sheets came home on Wednesday.

The SW states and capital test is also tomorrow. If your kiddo can tell you all four, write STATE in the planner for $10.

Mr. Landon used one of his show and tell coupons today. Earlier this year, he showed us a preview of the book he was writing. Today, he showed us the real deal! It was even typed and illustrated! Wowzers!!! I can't wait to read it this weekend Landon! It is now on our class bookshelf for everyone to enjoy. I am very, very proud of you Landon!

I leave you with a couple of fun BELIEVE sightings I had in class yesterday. Miss. Gabrielle has sure caught that BELIEVE bug going around! And YES! It is contagious....watch out!!! :0)

Enjoy the beautiful weather!

Native Games in PEAK this Month!

Hello there!

In math we are working on solid shapes, edges, faces, and vertex. Kids homework tonight revolves around that. Have kids find 5 items around the house and tell you what solid shape it is. (cube, cylinder, pyramid, sphere, prisms, and so on). If they can, write SOLID in the planner for $10 tomorrow.

Our Southwest regional states and capitals test is this Friday. Kids need to know where the 4 states are and be able to match their capital cities.

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Austin, Texas
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Phoenix, Arizona

In Montana History today we talked all about how kids in the 1700s learned while playing in the Native cultures. We looked at many of the traditional games such as double ball, shinny, hoop games, and run and scream. These games are all being offered for play during PEAK fitness club this month on Wednesday and Fridays after school. I LOVE double ball!!! It is just like lacrosse. The kids took it upon themselves at lunch recess to play a little run and scream. I am sure they scared the heck out of the duty aides. :0) Literally....you run and you scream at the same time. The one that can do this the farthest distance wins. We had a big talk about being honest and being respectful when playing all of the games. Otherwise, it is just not fun to play. I hope to see your kiddo out there today!

It was great to have Gabrielle and Kyra back from Florida, and Noah B from time with family!!!! We missed you all!

Have a great, great night!

Happy Late Birthday Mrs. Emerick!

Hello there!

I have to start off with this! Miss. Hanna got her braces off!!! I guess I am heading to Red Lodge this weekend to get her a bag of Huckleberry taffy as promised! Sweet!!!

We wrapped up our unit on finishing up strong this morning. Kids watched the butterfly video I shared with you at open house about struggling out of the cocoon. The little boy ended up cutting the cocoon open to help the butterfly get out instead of struggling. Little did he know that the struggling of the butterfly is necessary to push the fluid out of its body and into the wings. The butterfly is supposed to struggle. So, I told kids they are SUPPOSED to struggle!!! During Fly Time, we used our compasses to create a butterfly that encompassed all of our study on this subject. They will be hung in the classroom as a reminder to finish up strong and to not give up!!! Ask your kiddo what a butterfly has to do with struggling. If they can tell you what I just told you write BUTTERFLY in the planner for $10.

Tuesday folders came home today. Report cards are in them. Kids looked at them today and made goals. They did great! I am so proud of all of them! I can't wait to see what 4th quarter brings. Can you believe we are down to the last 44 days? (Tear, tear). Please take out the information inside, sign the back, and return ONLY the envelope tomorrow for $50.

How can you reward your kiddo for a great report card? How about a fun book from the new book orders. :0) (You will also reward their teacher because I get free books when you do! ;) Orders will be submitted in two weeks.

Homework tonight is cursive. No homework passes were allowed to be used.

Have a great, great night!

"Love is what makes the world go round" by Hanna in her DMG to me.

Well hello there. I have missed all of you! I hope you had a fabulous time just relaxing or doing whatever you did! I know a few of you were traveling, so I hope you made it there and back safe. The Grewell's had a wonderful break. We branded calves(in the picture below you can see all three brands belonging to the Grewell family...CH is grandpa, RK is brother Ricky, and ZlazyT is Zach's...it took me FOREVER to get this picture!), got our 4H bunnies, built a rabbit hutch, went to church, had a family/neighbor ranch hot dog roast/picnic, and finally relaxed on a rainy day!

I promised you a fun slideshow showcasing our fun PLTW restraining device egg/car exploration. Well...here it is. Kids went all the way through the design process from asking what it is they need to do, to writing down what they know from all of their experiments about speed, direction, potential and kinetic energy, force and backward force, transferring energy in a collision using an absorbing object, and having wiggle room to move a little in a collision. Knowing all that, they each wrote down a design/model that they wanted to build as a test car. They had certain supplies that they could shop for (they could only shop once per trial so they really needed to plan)(it was a bummer for some that forgot items like tape and cotton balls). Then, they got together in their groups and explained their ideas one at a time. The kids then had to rate each idea on a matrix asking questions like, is it realistic, will it take too long to build, will it protect the egg, and does it use supplies listed? After evaluating each design they had to decide which one to actually build and test. Then, they build and explored. That its the part you see in the video. Each time, they would have to go back and reflect on how the test went. If it went poorly, they had to fix the problem. If it was successful, then they had to go back and try another one on their list. Each group got at least two trials. It was really fun! Finally, they had to show mastery of their learning one on one. Each child was given some real world situational questions and they had to select an outcome to that event using what they knew from all their lessons and then tell why. That grade is on 4th quarter's science grades online. We will now move on to a new PLTW unit and start to build a bicycle and take apart a flashlight to see how it works. This second unit will take us the rest of the year. :0)

Our new spelling went great. Everyone did fantastic! We will take the second test tomorrow morning. Those that get two or less wrong will earn a 100%. Those that miss more than 2 will try again on Friday morning. I will give them back their paper to study from with the correct spellings. They must use the word correctly in text as well, so capital letters are a must where needed or it is wrong.

We will blaze on in MT History. We did seasonal rounds on Thursday. We followed two MT tribes up in the NW part of MT through the four seasons. Both tribes, the Salish and the Blackfeet, followed the buffalo through each season and relied on it to survive. Next, the gun and the horse are introduced through European contact. Everything pretty much changes after that.

In SS, we are ready for our SW states and capital's test. There are only four this time. The test will be on Friday. We will also take our open book test on the chapter in the text this week.

In math, we took our big geometry test last week. For the most part it went great. The grades are recorded in 4th grade math online for your viewing. There are a couple of areas that we need to revisit as a class, but overall the kids showed mastery of the subject area presented. So, we will press on. Now, we will go back and begin to review all that we have learned by applying it to real world problems. Kids will be getting hands on assignments where they have to use what they know from day one. This will help them solve the why do I even have to learn this question. :0)

In reading/Lead 21 we will be doing inquiry projects all week. Kids will be using a D2 doc program to showcase their learning about one of the Mid and Southwest States. They will do this all in class, and we will present them on Friday. If they want to work on them at home, they may, but they will have plenty of time in class if they use their time wisely. Check out this picture I took last week while kids were doing rotations. Here is your donation and tax money being well spent. Kids were typing informative essays while I was editing them online at the same time and commenting back to them on what they needed to fix, doing Moby Max math/reading/language programs, and looking up idioms and what they mean in order to do their language work successfully. Three rotations...all using the chrome books you bought! Thank you!!!!

We finished up our unit on struggles in Fly Time last week. Kids discovered the following sequence: struggles create perseverance which creates character which creates hope. We learned to look at struggles as a learning opportunity and find the fun in them knowing that giving up will not help our character form which will then not lead us to hope for ourselves or for others. We talked about how we sometimes struggle so that we can later know how to help someone else going through the same thing because we will have empathy and advise for them. It was a great unit.

Lastly, a happy, happy, happy birthday to Mr. Cayden! I hope he had a great one on his day off on Friday! Thank you so much for the yum, yum, yummy cupcakes on Friday. I sure enjoyed mine while sitting in a great, great presentation on Thursday. Wow! Happy Birthday buddy!

I hope that all of you have a wonderful Monday, and I will see you on Tuesday!

Happy Easter and Spring Break!

Hi!

We sure did have a great April Fool's Day. We got Espen's mom REALLY good!!! Hee Hee! That will teach her to send her kid into school with a fake broken arm! :0) Ask your kiddo about our trick. If they can tell you, write COOKIE in the planner. Why cookie? Ask the kids!!! :0)

Homework tonight involves you. Please pull up a chair and complete the spelling homework together with your child tonight. This new spelling has these built into it. Fun! Please sign the bottom of the page. This signature tells me that you and your child had a great discussion about the skills being done. They don't have to do the bottom extra part, but do a few to get the skill across. Thanks!

Espen, Noah L, Carl, Hanna, and Krissy need to be ready for the spelling test tomorrow. They should have brought their practice sheets home on Monday when I handed them back. :0) I know they are going to do great things this time! Yay!!!

Tomorrow is a half day. Kids are out at noon. Then, they are off Friday and Monday as well. Enjoy the mini spring break. I will post the slideshow of the cars/eggs then. No time...I tell ya. :0)

Have a wonderful break, and a very happy, hoppy Easter! :0)
