Happy Birthday Montana! Happy Veteran's Day!

Hello there.

First and foremost…don't forget that Monday morning at 8:30 is the parent show of the Veteran's Day program. Kids MUST wear red, white, or/and blue (or a mixture of those). NO SHORTS! We did a rehearsal on Friday with all the classes…AWESOME!!! You don't want to miss this touching program to honor all those that have and are serving. Amazing!

Second and foremost…Happy Birthday Montana! Yesterday we turned ??? years old. We became this great state in 1889 on November 8th. That makes us how many years old kiddos??? If they can figure it out and tell you, write our age in the planner for $10 tomorrow.

We will celebrate the occasion by making Montana Sugar cookies. The kids and I spent Sunday morning from 5:30 am on making 125 sugar cookies in the shape of Montana for all the 4th graders at Arrowhead. (No complaining will be awesome!!!) We will add the frosting (blue sky), the two main rivers (licorice strings), mountain ranges and tops (chocolate chips), capital city (large M&M), major cities (small M&Ms), and Flathead Lake (gummy bear). Kids will get their picture taken with their cookie for their MT History notebooks and then may enjoy devouring their very own Montana State. :0)

Monday is supposed to be COLD. Please make sure kiddos come to school prepared for snow and cold weather. They do go out for recess if it is above zero. I am a little more hesitant. Ever since living in Florida for ten years, I get cold very easy. I tend to stay in for indoor recess if it is too, too cold. At lunch though, they go out. Hats, gloves, and warm clothes. Thanks.

This week academically…

Math: Continue with three by two multiplication using alternate methods along with the standard. We will begin long division toward the end of the week along with finding area and perimeter of squares and rectangles.

Reading: We finished up section two in Lead 21, alternate forms of energy. Kids got into groups of three last week (One A, B, and S student in each) and shared what their story was about. We had one on wind power, one on nuclear power using uranium, and one on algae. All three of these stories could become reality in their future. We will read one on solar power next week. We will continue to work on summarizing and sequencing along with antonyms and synonyms.

Spelling: More vowel +r sounds.

Science: Types of matter. We never got to our caramel lab due to the half days last week. We will get to it this week for sure.

S.S. : The first states and capital's test on the NE region will be this coming Friday afternoon. Kids know exactly what to expect. We will study a little in class, but most of this needs to be done at home. Puzzles and flashcards!!! We will also spend some time doing an interactive tour around the NE region in our green books.

MT History: MT birthday.

Fly Time: We finished up bullying by signing a pledge to not only not be bullies ourselves but to also stand up for those that are being bullies. We finished the week with a book called, Alley Oops. It is a fun read about finding things in common with a bully so you can become friends. Just one more strategy in their tool belt. Boy…it is getting full! Check out the hall display this week about this important topic! This week we will follow Rusty's lessons on schooltoolstv.com. Rusty is a counselor in San Francisco, CA. He puts out a one minute video each day on character education. It will help to bring home the messages and stories I have planned for the week. He and his wife are also a dear friends of mine and Zach's. How cool!

Challenge homework will begin this week for those that accept it. Remember, this is in addition to regular homework.

Dominic was our star of the week last week. He shared some fun things about himself. Kids really questioned him about his Lego Club. What a fun magazine! We also enjoyed seeing his Ninja Turtles. Thanks for sharing with us Dominic. One cool kid!!

I will be gone Tuesday afternoon for two doctor's appointments. I am leaving the kiddos in very good hands. Miss. Young is awesome! I know the kids will be great for her and continue learning just as if I was there. After all, true character is how we are acting when no one (or Mrs. Grewell) isn't watching. :0)

Espen and family, I hope you had a great time in Denver! Noah B, I hope you are feeling better. We missed you on Friday! Josh, I hope the playoff games went well and that no matter what the outcome, that you have a great time doing your best!

Well, I think that is about it. Have a great Sunday, and I will see you bright and early tomorrow morning for the concert! We will be doing the same show on Friday at St. Johns if you can't make the one tomorrow. :0)
