Happy Mother's Day!!!!

Oh my goodness that was one of the best Baby Egg Days ever!!!! I couldn't believe how caring and gentle most moms and dads were. This is the first year that I have not had a broken egg in the first 5 minutes. Awesome!!!

We started the day by filling our our birth certificates. We had to weigh our babies using a balance scale in grams. Then, we had to find the circumference using a piece of string and a ruler.



Kids/Parents were also offered a one time buy in for medical insurance. Most kids bought in. In the case of an accident, the bandaids were $10 a pop instead of $100. Unfortunately, we had one parent have to learn this the hard way....$300 later. :0(

We also learned that Mrs. Grewell was correct in warning us not to play basketball or teatherball at recess with a baby in our hands. Ouch and CRACKS! Poor babies.




The cribs were so dang cute! And, when you added the drawn on egg, it was adorable. What a great way for kids to step into your shoes for a day!



Of course some kids forgot to take their babies wherever they went and took the chance of it being kidnapped by mean ole Mrs. Grewell. It was $20 a pop to get the kid back. I made some cash today!!!! (Right A.J.?????)

Normally, I tell the kids that they will be getting a S.S. grade for this and then at the end of the day tell them that I was just kidding to encourage them to take it more serious. However, this year, they did such a great job that I did take a grade. It was 5 points off for each bandaid bought. :0)

Here were some funny quotes I heard throughout the day...

"My mom and dad make it look so easy."
"I don't want to have a kid. I just want to be in our basement watching TV on the couch."
"I don't like being a parent!"
"You have got to be kidding me...my baby got stolen again!"
"When you have children, you need to let the mom watch the baby."

"This is fun. Can we do it again tomorrow?"

Again...love my job!

Homework tonight is a states and capital's review. I encouraged them not to use a map at first so they can figure out which ones are still giving them trouble for our test not this Thursday but next on all 50. I encourage you to check them over and have kids make a flash card for ones they get wrong.

Tomorrow is bike to school day. Kids may ride their bike with a helmet and join Mr. Pertuit on a 30 minute ride around campus at 1:30. They MUST have a helmet to go. Those that don't bring a bike, will do a walking scavenger hunt at school outside.

Due to the teacher's at Arrowhead being so BRIGHT, Mrs. Meier is suggesting kids wear their sunglasses tomorrow at school. A fun way to show teacher appreciation. :0) I loved all my homemade cards today too! Thank you!

Three people are still in need of field trip money ($6). If it is your kiddo, I told them to write it in the planner today. It would be great to get that turned in this week so I can get it off my hands as well. Thanks!

Ready to be a Grandma and Grandpa!!! It is Baby Egg Day tomorrow!

Hi there. Can 4th grade get any more fun??? I have the best job in the world! Check out these amazing kids all dressed in their teacher's favorite colors: Black and Pink! Kyra even scored bonus points by wearing a black and pink shirt that said the word BELIEVE! Love it!



In honor of Mother's Day, I do a fun activity that allows kids to have empathy for their parents. Tomorrow will be Baby Egg Day! As soon as kids arrive in the door, they will become a single parent for the day. That means, wherever they go...their child goes! Everywhere!!!! They learn very fast just how expensive kids are and how $20 here and there adds up quickly. They also learn a valuable lesson about having medical insurance for those unexpected accidents that send kids to the doctor. I also have been know to kidnap an egg or two in my days. Kids may not EVER be left alone at a desk unattended. Of course we will add some math into the mix by finding the circumference of our baby egg and its weight in ounces using a balance scale. Students need to bring some kind of crib to put on their desk for the day. We talked all about the rules and what ifs this morning. Cribs need to be smaller than a check book box and fit nicely on the corner of the desk. Baby eggs will remain in these while students are at their desks working. Recess, lunch, and recess again are always interesting times. It is PRICELESS to see their mom and dad face when their baby gets a crack. They look like yours when they do!!! I love this day! They will write a note to share with you on Sunday that tells all about their fun time being a mom or a dad. Happy Mother's Day Grandmas and Grandpas!!! :0)

Homework tonight is to prepare their crib and to show you how to play one of the ecosystem games we played today in Lead 21. They all really loved trying to avoid being the prey of the predator snake! I think they get all the terms now!!!

I leave you with a thank you. I feel appreciated every single day, and this week is no different. All of you are so generous with your love and compliments. My bucket was filled to the top today by all the hugs and Mrs. Grewells I heard. Even though my name sometimes hurts my ears, I get excited when I hear it because it means that a kiddo wants to share with me! That is awesome! A special thank you to David today who treated me to a Scheels gift card. I can't wait to get on that ferriswheel! Avery surprised me with a container of STARbursts in a STAR dish with a You're a STAR teacher tag. I shared them with all of my STAR students!!! I was surprised after lunch as well. I went down to the lounge to eat and I was teasing Mrs. Derrig by saying...oh flowers for me how sweet. Turns out they were!!! Are these orchids not beautiful!!! What really melted my heart though was the card. I have known the Dowler family for two years now (I had both the twins last year) and they are all so amazing. It was very special to my heart to read their words of kindness. Relational teaching is not easy, but I just can't imagine a world where I didn't do it. I truly, truly care about each and every child that comes into my path and I absolutely love that they invite me into their outside of school lives. I can't wait to see how they grow up and hope to always be a part of it. I remember telling you at Open House, that I am not a one year teacher. I am a forever teacher. I have enjoyed every single minute of it! Thanks again!

Chi Chi the Chiwawa! (Now it is stuck in my head!)

Hello there.

I totally forgot that we still had our NWEA Map Language test to take. :0) Here I thought we were done. So, we took it this morning. Those that were not here will make it up tomorrow. Kids once again showed great growth. I will send home the final results in the Tuesday Folders. I couldn't be more proud to be every single one of their's teacher!

The recorder concert was fantastic. A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Waddell for doing such a great job. Believe me...they didn't start out this way! Thanks for helping out at home by allowing them to play Hot Cross Buns until you couldn't stand it anymore. I get the joy of going through this once again next year with Beau. It really is so cute though and it is a great way to see if they will be able to handle the practice schedule at home for next year's band/orchestra/choir choice. If you didn't see it come home the entire time...something to think about.



Teachers sure felt appreciated today when walking into Arrowhead. Wow! What a great place to work. I LOVED all my fun "Mrs. Grewell is a STAR" notes this morning. I have the BEST job in the entire world!! Adler surprised me with flowers and Gabrielle spoiled me with new BELIEVE signs, a mug full of mint tea, and a fun necklace that reminds me to create, imagine, and inspire. Thank you all so very much. I always feel so loved by all of you!



Homework tonight is two math papers reviewing place value: Alaska and Arizona.

Midterms come home tomorrow. There are some missing assignments out there, so please encourage kids to get those in ASAP. Please remember that with two solid weeks of testing leaves only a few hours a day to actually teach and assess other lessons. Grades are slim pickings in some areas. Every assignment carries weight.

Ask your kiddo about Think-Tell-Do. We talked about it today in Fly Time when we wrapped up our Brave lessons. When feeling scared to do something new...kids should realize that they THINK they can't do it, so they need to TELL themselves that they can do it, and then hurry up and DO it before they get scared again. Otherwise, they have to go back to the THINK again. :0) If they can tell you what this is all about, write BRAVE in the planner for $50 tomorrow.

Another busy week is upon us.

The recorder concert is tomorrow at 1:30. That means we will not have gym. Mrs. Waddell asks that the kids wear nice clothes rather than gym shorts, pants, and such. Gotta show that Arrowhead pride! :0)

Thursday is our Bike/Walk day at school. Kids should try to ride their bikes that day so they can go on the school wide ride that afternoon. Can't...no worries they can walk with me. :0) This will be a great test run for our Bike to Spinners! :0)

Friday we head out to Riverside Park for a day of fun for Arbor Day. The district set this one up, so I am not sure what it entails. I have one chaperone so far. Do I have more???? It is all day long.

Other than that, we are business as usual!

Happy Summer Birthday to Adler last Friday. I hope  you enjoy the real thing while on summer vacation. Thanks for the yummy donuts!!! And for saving me a maple bar!!! :0) Up next...Noah B tomorrow! :0)



I have been asked by many of you about Extended Studies testing. Mrs. Hetland is the one that deals with that. She will mail you a letter at home if your child's test scores warrant an IQ test. I recommended 7 students. That is the extent of my input. If you receive a letter, please sign it and return soon so we can be ready to pull them when she is ready. Remember...every child is gifted in some way!!!!!
