Sorry for the late blog. The internet was down at school at the end of the day.
Homework tonight is to write a Dear Mrs. Grewell letter. I am hoping that they include their plan as to how they are going to finish up strong before going to the 5th grade. :0)
We had a BLAST today testing out our egg restraining devises. They sure had some interesting engineering designs. I took pictures and video. I will post them in a slideshow tomorrow.
In Fly Time we talked about perseverance and not ever giving up. We tried to imagine a world that we would be perfect every time we tried something. It would be pretty boring!!! Mistakes are fun! When we don't give up, we learn what to do the next time. I shared one of my all time favorite poems with he kiddos today. If you watch this, write QUIT in the planner for $50 tomorrow.

Tuesday folders came home today. There was a lot of information for parents. Please look through it carefully. There is also the permission slip for the upcoming field trip to Plenty Coup State Park with our friends over at Washington Elementary. Please sign and return tomorrow. There is no real money cost for this as Indian Education For All picked up the tab for us! Wow!!! (That is over $200 donation!) Kids will need a sack lunch that day. Kids that return it tomorrow will earn $50. Thanks. There is a $200 fake money buy in as well. Most kiddos have already done this. Ask yours...

It Is Good To Be Back!
Hello, hello, hello!
It is good to be back. I woke up on Friday and felt great. So...I went to school and surprised the kids! I was greeted with big hugs and happy "Mrs. Grewell...we missed you!" Warmed my heart. I took it easy, and we had a great day together.
The quarter ends on Tuesday. All missing work is due tomorrow. Please check online to make your sure your kiddo has everything turned in. I also printed a missing work report for kids that have it. It is on their desk waiting for them.
Kids will also be greeted with a new wallet and $200 start up money tomorrow. Kids spent all their money buying into the upcoming April field trip to Plenty Coup State Park and buying coupons. We now have blue money. Those that were absent will buy their coupons tomorrow, but past that old money will no longer be accepted.
Quarter 4 means we are in the homestretch. Expectations won't get any higher than they are this quarter. It is time to pull out all the stops and push, push, push one last time. Kids will show just how much they have grown in the 4th grade on the upcoming MONTCas Smarter Balanced testing and the MAP NWEA tests in April and May. I can't wait to see the results. Whoohoooo!
Fines have also been raised from $50 to $100. Kids should not have any reason to not know our classroom expectations now. They also need to be ready for the 5th grade classrooms. Missing work, talking out in class, forgetting things at home, not having planners signed, and just all around behaving in class should be easy as pie these days. Those that are still having issues with these skills will be fined heavily to help drive it home one more time. It is imperative that kids earn their money and keep it as we have some upcoming field trips this quarter that will require buy ins. Positive choices...no issues buying in! Negative choices...might have to stay behind. BELIEVE!
Report cards come home not this week, but next week.
Don't forget this week is a short week. Kids have a half day on Thursday, off Friday, and off the following Monday. Enjoy your Easter Break.
Academically...
Math: We will try to finish up our geometry unit and take the final test.
Reading/Lead 21: We will finish up our Unit 5 reading and skill work and begin our inquiry projects.
Spelling: We will begin our new program. We will test tomorrow without studying. Kids that miss two or less, will be done for the week. Those that don't will need to study and will take the same test again on Thursday. These are 20 words that 4th graders use every day. Many of them are homophones. We will continue skill work as well.
Language: Pronouns.
Science: We are ready to test out our cars and their restraining devices on a raw egg in PLTW. Kids have designed ideas and will test them out. Then, they will go back and decide if they were successful or need a bit of tweaking before trying again. After trying it twice, we will take the cars apart and begin to build the next devise.
MT History: Native Americans in the 1820s. We will see what happens when the gun and horse are introduced by early Europeans. Hint...it changes everything!
SS-We will begin our tour of the SW region. The states and capitals test will be not this Friday, but next Friday. There are only 4 states in this region: Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Arizona.
Fly Time: We will take a look at this cause and effect sequence: struggles-perseverance-character-hope. There are reasons we struggle, and that is to build ourselves up. We will take a look at how we can be compared to a lump of coal. coal-pressure-heat-diamond!
Miss. Emily was our star of the week last week. She brought in her sweet puppy dog and a ton of stuffed animals. So precious! Emily sure loves her animals...real and stuffed! Thanks for sharing with us Emily!
I was so sad to miss the science fair. I was able to slide down their this weekend and check out all the creativity done. Wow!!!! I could not believe all the different boards and projects in there. I was able to grade all the boards that I could find. I am super proud of all those that did a board this year! I also gave each child extra credit by changing their lowest science grade to a 100% as promised. Great job to all kids. If you were at the Billings Clinic Science Fair on Friday or Saturday, please write FAIR in the planner for $100. (Your child did not have to do a project for you to go!)
Happy Birthday to Miss. Hanna. Thank you so much for the yum, yum, yummy donuts! She made a killing right before buying coupons! Sweet time to have a birthday! Hanna also got a pretty cool birthday present this weekend. Check this out! Whoa! Pretty grown up their Hanna!
Reece we sure hope you had a great time skiing. We missed you on Friday. Sure glad you were not up at Red Lodge when the wind and fires hit! I am hoping no one was. Wow!!! Pretty smokey in our neck of the woods!

One More Sub Day.
Hi!
I hope all the kids had a great day. I sure do miss them. I also hope the Science Fair was super fun!
My procedure went very well. However, the doctor has ordered me home again tomorrow and the weekend to rest and relax. This is the last thing I want, but I am going to follow the doctors orders. So, there will be a sub one more day tomorrow. Thank you so much for all the texts last night and this morning. You have no idea how amazing your support is and what it means to me. This chapter is now closed and I am excited to finally be back to the old Mrs. Grewell again come Monday.
There was no homework assigned tonight. Enjoy the night off.

Sub Again Tomorrow.
Hello there.
I am hoping all went well today at school. Homework tonight is to finish up their scholastic news. They have a map skills page and the back page.
The doctor's appointment didn't go that well for me. I will be gone again tomorrow. I got answers, but now they want to do a procedure tomorrow. I will be back to work on Friday. Please know that I absolutely hate not being there each and everyday and I try so, so hard to not miss school. This just can't be avoided.
I am so sad that I will be missing the science fair tomorrow. I am glad however that I will see them all at the Expo Center this weekend. Kids need to bring in their boards and props tomorrow morning before 8 to the gym. They will set them up then. All day, parents, staff, and students will be going through the gym to check them out. We will be there at 2. Then, at dismissal, the boards and supplies must go back home. Kids will eat lunch with Mrs. Moore again on Friday to talk Expo details. These are the same details as you got in your email. She just wants to make sure everyone is on the same page for Friday.
Have a wonderful night. I know baseball, soccer, and many other activities have started up. Please have kiddos bring in game schedules when they get them. I would love to come watch when I can.

Sub Tomorrow
Hi there.
We did a ton today.
In Fly Time, we checked on our grades and made goals for the week. Everyone has something to work on. We can all get better all the time...even me. :0) This Friday, is the coupon buy in. Kids also bought in for the upcoming field trip to Plenty Coup State Park in April. I didn't want them to spend all their money and then not be able to buy in. Now, they will need to spend all their leftover money as we will start over again for 4th quarter next Monday. There will be a few more field trips at the end of the year, so it will be imperative that they save their cash and not spend it foolishly, like talking out, having missing assignments, or goofing around. Fines also will increase from the standard $50 to $100. Those that make positive choices will not have ANY problem earning all the cash they need and then some.
The Science Fair is THURSDAY at Arrowhead and FRIDAY at the Blgs. Clinic. Kids need to bring in everything Thursday morning before school to the gym and set it up. Parents are welcome anytime that day to view the projects. Our class will be going down at 2 to view. Please see your email from the clinic for details about Friday. Last week, Miss. Morgan was star of the week. We got to meet her very special, furry friend Ruby. What a laid back kitty! Morgan also loves Minecraft, having Nerf Wars, building legos, and snuggling with her very special teddybear that her grandma gave to her before passing. Sweet, sweet stuff. Thanks for sharing with us Morgan! You are one amazing kiddos. AND... thanks mom for bringing in the kitty for us to enjoy!
This week we will complete our last unit in the spelling book for the year. We will then switch to a new program that deals with words that 4th graders use everyday in their world. Kids will be given the test on Mondays. There is NO list to study from. The test is a story with blanks in it. I will read the story and the kids fill in the words as I go. Many of the words are homophones such as there, their, and they're and to, two, and too. I will then grade them and give them back on Tuesday with the corrected spellings. Kids that miss 2 or less will pass with a 100% and be done for the week. Those that miss more than two, will have all week to study off their sheets, and they will test again on Friday (same exact test). They will then earn the percent they earn. I will put the words on the blog on Tuesdays as well, but they need to know the context to use them in so I will make sure to put the graded one in the Tuesday folders each week for safe keeping. You will notice that the words tend to repeat from test to test. As I said, it tests words that 4th graders should know in their everyday writing over and over and over again. There will not be an alternate list anymore.
We started our new region in SS today...the South West. Hold onto your hats because this region only has 4 states!!! Heehaw!! Flashcards will come home later this week. Hi there.
Sorry for the late blog. I am literally just getting home from today's outside adventures. What a beautiful weekend.
We will have spelling this week, but not the following week.
The Science Fair is this Friday! I can't wait to see all the experiments.
